Sunday lunch was super tasty. Gorgeous gravy, veg was cooked perfectly, parsnips, carrots, 2 types of kale and an enormous Yorkshire pudding. Potatoes were described as cooked in duck fat but were a little disappointing as the outers were tough and not the crispiness anticipated with duck fat ( maybe reheated?) But still tasted good. Lamb loin was tender and seasoned beautifully and the beef my husband tells me was excellent.

Everything about this restaurant shouts quality. The location provides an idea setting at the side of the river, an old historic building given a modern and elegant transformation that delivers exceptional plates of food. We were there for breakfast and were blown away by the quality of ingredients, attention to detail “warm toast” and quality of service. I would highly recommend breakfast here and can’t wait to return one day to try out the evening menu.

My partner and I went during restaurant week, so this is based on their special menu for that period. It was overall pretty good, but nothing special, and okay for the price. It really suffers from York having some very stiff competition. I had the black pudding bon bons and pork meatballs, whilst my partner had the cod cheeks, potato pave and banoffee cheesecake. The black pudding and meatballs were both very tasty, but extremely dry and lacked sufficient sauce to compensate - the meatball sauce in particular was overpowering but surprisingly sticky rather than compensating. The cod and potato were both good, but the potato needed a bit more to be a main course. The cod was probably the next part, being really well cooked and not needing the separate curry sauce provided due to being delicious. The cheesecake was also good, with a good balance of flavours. The wines we had were nice, although I don't remember them specifically beyond being a fruity Malbec and a Rueda and whilst not shown on the menu they do 125ml glasses.
